Large Numbers in Scripture
Are all the large numbers in the Bible meant to be taken literally? Did two million people leave Egypt for Sinai? Were there really more Judahites fighting for King Jehoshaphat than Russians in the Battle of Kursk? Or do some of these large numbers - or even all of them - communicate something besides what the Office of National Statistics would say if they were recording events afterwards? If so, what?
